One of my favorite activities is to write long letters. I do this over a slanted writing table that my son and husband made for me a few Christmases ago. Northern light streams through the window just above the shelf where I keep my collection of dip pens and inks, the stained blotter, the pouch-eyed frogs and coquís given to me by well wishers. Wind tickles the leaves of the hickory tree just outside the window, its yellowness reflecting into my room on this cool but sunny Autumn morning. The screen where this message appears will be my letter to you. As often as possible, I will sit before the slanted writing table and draft out a few words to be posted on this website. It’s not exactly the same as a letter in longhand from a dip pen, but I’ll do my best to recreate the intimate immediacy of epistolary writing. I hope you will visit frequently. Your support keeps me motivated and encouraged, and knowing you’re out there makes the lonesome act of writing less forbidding. This page will be my way of reaching out to you, as to a friend.

Saludos,
Esmeralda
